Pure Afro-Cuban joy, from the traditional to the visionary.

“ . . . something special . . .” —JazzWise Magazine
“This is not your father’s Cuban jazz.” —The Wall Street Journal
“Lyrical, complex and caffeinated, it combines the instrumentation and ground rules of the classic hard-bop quintet with the rhythmic savvy of Afro-Cuban music and long-arc compositional ambition.” —DownBeat

Afro-Cuban saxophonist and chekeré virtuoso Yosvany Terry has had a remarkable jazz journey in the U.S., beginning with his first visit to SJW in 1995. Since then, he’s been a sideman with artists such as Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Eddie Palmieri, Chucho Valdes, Taj Mahal, Branford Marsalis, Paul Simon, and many others. In recent years, Yosvany has come into his own as a leader. For this show he’s assembled a blazing band to share his new compositions and arrangements.
