Engaging with Mathematics

Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies is pleased to host the Stanford Math Circle for the Winter quarter. Math Circles bring motivated students together with passionate mathematics instructors to work on interesting problems, encouraging a sense of discovery and excitement about mathematics.

Elementary to High School

We provide programs appropriate for all age levels in grades 1–12.

Mathematical Thinking

In the elementary circle, the focus is on logical reasoning, “thinking like a mathematician,” and problem solving.

Passion for Mathematics

These programs are for students who are passionate and excited about mathematics and want to see and do more.

Higher Mathematics

In the middle and high school circles, students are exposed to skills and topics in higher mathematics that are outside the standard mathematics curriculum.

The Stanford Math Circle offers quarter-long sessions for elementary, middle, and high school students interested in math. Sessions are held weekly online for grades 1-12 and both online and in-person for grades 9-12.

Students are expected to attend all live online classes (in-person for grades 9-12 on Thursdays) and should only register for sections that are appropriate for their current school grade level, schedule, and time zone..

Please visit each individual course page for detailed information about the class section, including meeting time, instructor details, and recommended prior experience. Many Math Circle participants perform above grade level in math and this is considered in the structure of the program; therefore, students should register in their current school grade level for students to learn amongst peers their own age. Inaccurate registrations will be refunded less a $50 administrative fee per registration without advance notice.
