Rachel Maddow's visit to Stanford is two fold. First, she will be talking about Drift, her New York Times bestseller, in which she argues that we've drifted away from America's original ideals and have become a nation weirdly at peace with perpetual war, with all the financial and human costs that entails. To understand how we've arrived at such a dangerous place, Drift takes us from the Vietnam War to today's war in Afghanistan, along the way exploring the disturbing rise of executive authority, the gradual outsourcing of our war-making capabilities to private companies, and the plummeting percentage of American families whose children fight our constant wars for us.

And second, as a gradute of Stanford and The Program in Ethics in Society, Maddow’s talk will also touch upon the importance of studying the humanities and reflect on her undergraduate experience of writing her senior honor’s thesis.

Maddow currently hosts MSNBC’s critically acclaimed “The Rachel Maddow Show,” which features Maddow’s take on the biggest stories of the day, political and otherwise, including lively debate with guests from all sides of the issues, and in-depth analysis.

Tickets will not be mailed to this event.Please pick up your tickets at the Stanford Ticket Office before 4 pm on March 16th, or at Will Call starting at 6 pm on March 16th.

Doors open at 6:15pm.
